New site/url.

As I said I was bringing this back, I brought it back through a new blog on tumblr. Under a new name, and new type of "brand" and way of going about looking at the music scene. So if you like what you saw here, you'll like what I post over on my new blog, The Sound Files, much better as I have progressed as a photographer and not only that, but as a writer and a person too. I will probably go more into depth on the recording process and such from my experiences in these studios.

I'm shooting more shows then before, and am more involved in the music industry then before. I'll bring you behind the scenes of some of the music industry things, such as the recording process at studios. Maybe some interviews too?

So there are going to be changes here over the next month while I revise this, change things and that. It'll still be more a photo based thing, but the photos will be better then seen on here before, more videos and a lot more non live show (but still music based) things, such as this photo series I am doing on music people that make up the scene here in BC. From the producers, to sound guys to the musicians. Everyone. It should be exiting!

Party for the Planet!

The City of Surrey brought back it's Party for the Planet this year. The headliner was Spirit of the West (whom put on such a good live show!). The other acts were Hannah Georgas, Aidan Knight, George Leach and some others.

Surrey Winterfest 2011

The City of Surrey usually holds an annual event in Surrey Central called Winterfest. It was put off last year for their Olympic Celebration concert series, but they brought it back this year. Hot Hot Heat were the head liners while The Knots, The Latency, Kyprios, and Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason played.

This is a DIY stop motion music video for the song "Some Will Have To Go" by Vancouver raised, Montreal based canadian pop songwriter Char2d2. The song is taken from her debut EP "Small Vampires" co-produced by Tegan Quin (Tegan & Sara).

the music video is all about the analogy between love and weather, seasons and (time)travelling. it's a never ending cycle.

when making this video i had this quote in mind (can't remember where it's from) "love, it's over when it's ending but it's ending from the start". yet again there is enough surprises around so that the end of one thing will be the soil for the next thing to grown onto. starting all over again. rising phoenix, ashes and all that jazz.

Youth in 57's Battle of the Bands

Youth in 57 held a battle of the bands contest, http://www.y57.ca/events/BOTB.html, on Thursday August 26th at Vancouver's Heritage Hall, that I attended. The bands that were competing where: All the Way, Hello Sir, Ouderkirk, Verspertine and High Life Scenery (whom competed in Youthink's Best BC Teen Band Contest back in May).

When I arrived there around 4:30pm with on the the volunteers from Youth in 57, bands where arriving and setting up and sound checking. So while all that was happening, I walked around and took photos (that didn't really turn out to good, ha). The bands, while waiting for the doors to open, where talking with each other and playing games on their computers while some where getting their instruments ready. There wasn't much to do until the first band got on.

When 6:00 rolled around, the doors finally opened and friends, family and fans started to pour in. The show didn't officially start until 7:00pm, in which the first band came on. The order the five bands had to play in where: Ouderkirk ,Verspertine, Highlife Scenery, Hello Sir and All the Way.

The first band, Ouderkirk, had a nice mellow tone going on with their set that was filled with both fast paced and slow paced songs. Their drummer was even playing with one hand, and did a damn fine job of it! The next band, Verspertine, had a real unique vibe going on with them, which is why I recommend checking them out. They have a show coming up as well. Up after them was Highlife Scenery, who are a pop punk band. They're set was full of energy which got the crowd into the set and filled the venue up with energy. I too recommend checking out these guys, who are up and coming in the Vancouver music scene. They too have a show coming up.

Though, I had to leave after Highlife Scenery, I heard both Hello Sir and All the Way put on great sets.

Surrey's Fusion Fest

Surrey's annual Fusion Fest happen on the 17th, and 18th of June. It was a jam packed weekend filled with acts from cultures from all over the world. It was an awesome weekend, with lots of rad talent and awesome food from all these cultures. This festival can even re-unite bands together, such as the Grapes of Wrath (whom killed it by the way). This festival brought acts such as Arrested Development, Brasstronaut, Grapes of Wrath, Inez, Joey Stylez, Lee Harvey Osmond, Red Eye Empire, We Are the City, and many more! They all played well, and made for an enjoying event. Instead of writing up a bunch of boring text, I'll save you from that and just get straight to the photos!
